Server, Game, and Store Updates |

The game has been updated today.
Here is a list of the changes:
-You may now specify the amount of items you want to withdraw from the banks on item with a value such as diamonds or lumber. This addition also fixes a bug where depositing too many of a limited amount of item would cause them to get stuck in your bank permanently.
-Slightly lowered Knight's energy and significantly boosted Mages. They are about even now.
-Spell cast timer was raised from 500 ms to 800 ms primarily to balance Mages
-Game engine now uses DirectInput for faster keyboard response and performance
-Added a new "/ping" command to measure the delay (lag) between the game and server. This delay is in milliseconds. The lower, the better.
-Made the scripting system crash-proof
-Further increased networking performance
-Improved the language filter to help curb a growing amount of player spam and abuse
-Updated game security against cheaters. Never attempt to cheat on Odyssey.
-Fixed a bug where the floating text from magic against monsters was incorrect
-Fixed several freeze and crash bugs
In other news, the store is back online using PayPal! As many of you know, there were some people who committed credit card fraud. To protect the game, the new store simply only uses PayPal and the "Send Money" tab within it. This will protect the server (and your contributions) from having to pay chargeback fees from other people stealing from the store. If you don't have a PayPal account it's pretty painless to make one, and it's used almost everywhere now, so now is the time to get one! |

The game was updated today. A new option to disable the in-game lighting was introduced, and a whole bunch of little bugs were fixed. We have also increased the stability of the server by fixing up the scripting system. |

Game Changes
-Added a new Ground2 and Att2 layer. This will allow many map bugs in the game to be fixed, and allow quests and newly created maps to be much more versatile
-Fixed the mixup between the Pally sprite and the Cleric sprite
-Reduced maximum players in guild to 10 to encourage smaller, tighter guilds
-Maps in the map cache are now encrypted to prevent theft and misuse of this data
-Resurrect has been fixed, and has been improved to be a clickable spell instead of a command
-Extended the max ban length to 255 days
-Added adjustable repair cost world variables
-Added adjustable death time length world variable
-Added adjustable max players per guild world variable
-Opening certain windows no longer causes and autoattack and autorun
Scripting Changes:
-Added constants for True/False
-Added SetPlayerClass scripting command
-Added SetPlayerDirection scripting command
-Added CreateMapStaticText scripting command
-Fixed a mixup between SetPlayerAgility and SetPlayerIntelligence
Magic System improvements:
-Linked the casting and melee attack timer together
-Each magic entry can now be set to be usable by more than one class
-Script name is no longer used. The script for magic is simply is always Spell + the #)
-Fixed an issue where holding ctrl and using a hotkey would assign the hotkey even if the magic window was closed. This caused problems when PKing because if you tried to do a melee attack you might accidently set hotkeys.
Bug Fixes:
-Fixed a problem where guards would kill new players over and over and not reset their PK status
-Fixed a bug where dead players could cast spells
-Fixed a bug where dead players could move during lag
-Fixed a bug where sometimes players would appear dead to other players when they were not
-Fixed a bug where effects were being drawn 16 pixels too low
-Fixed projectiles going through light dampening tiles
-Fixed problems with some of the AttackMonster scripting commands
-Fixed a bug where when you first joined the game, you could not attack or cast a spell
until you moved
-Fixed a bug where facing off the map you spammed with cannot attack message lots of times
-Fixed picking up essences
-Fixed the offline map editor
-Fixed /god setclass to no longer require relogging for changes to take effect
-Fixed a bug where short range warps would create a sort of skidding effect |

Game Changes:
-Optimized the game code to run faster
-Reduced the time you stay a corpse after dying to 15 seconds
-Added protection against a directional movement hack
-Made windowed mode the default startup mode
-New light-dampening attribute for realistic indoor lighting
-Changed Thief class name to Rogue

Server Changes:
-You may now repair most items again

-Made it so players below level 50 cannot attack guards and peasants for their own protection

Map Editor Improvements:
-Added Ctrl+Click to select an already placed tile or attribute
-Added a selection memory for the last attribute edited (especially useful for warps and TP's)
-Added a selected tile number
-Upgraded terrain generators for sand and grass, can now create solid objects (optional)
Artwork Changes:
-New sprites (20 or so)
-Removed old logos off some guild sprites
-Lots of new tiles, trees
Bug Fixes:
-Fixed a bug where guards would attack players without PK status
-Fixed a bug where players were seeing the wrong PK status on their player
-Fixed protection for walking over certain types of walls
-Fixed a bug where players could get autosquelched during lag
-Fixed a bug where Undroppable and indestructible items counted in the Repair All total

Game Changes:
-Added an in-chat notification for when an item breaks to make it more visible to players
-Added "Can't attack" messages for actions taken on or against No Attack tiles
-Added a new command /guild sprite to restore your guild's sprite
-Added Message of the Day for guilds (Set using /guild motd)

-Added a /guild help command to list available commands for guild members
-Added automatic deletion for expired bans
-Reduced the server's database size to 1/5th what it was
Server Changes:
-You may now only carry 5 energy boosters at a given time
-Level 70 is now required to create or join a guild
Bug Fixes:
-Fixed an issue where picking up an object when your inventory was full would cause it to disappear
-Fixed an issue where trying to remove a player from a guild would cause a crash
-Fixed annoying behavior when you are disconnected (would go back to main menu when it shouldn't)
-Fixed the Kill/Death Ratio having 10 extras digits by setting it to round to 2 decimal places
-Fixed a bug that would cause a random group of people to be disconnected randomly
-Fixed a problem where moving around on top of a key would spam the gods with a message, and send the map over and over to the player wasting bandwidth

Because it's been a while since I've been able to update Odyssey, I have put aside some time to make some really big updates. This one is only the beginning. My updates are going to focus on fixing the balance on the server, adding more magic, and improving the guild system. Here's the changelog for the first round of changes:
-Shiny New Guild System
--Improved guild list navigation by consolidating the menu into one dialog
--Fix the displaying of the Guild's sprite
--Added Guild Creation Date
--Added Declaration dates
--Guild war stats (based on Declaration). You may now see your kills/deaths against your rival guilds!
--Collective guild stats (total kills and deaths) of a guild
--Individual guild player stats (Kills, Deaths, Kill to Death Ratio, Joined Date)
--Made it so you can't accidently demote yourself to a low rank in the guild editing menu
-Added a new sand generator to variate desert terrain more
-The main menu now appears in the windows taskbar. Before, it was hidden from the task bar, which was annoying.
-Consolidated /withdraw, /deposit, and /balance into one command: /bank
Server Changes:
-Removed a bunch of spells from the list that were non-functional
-Borflail is now +31
-Hammer of Frost is now +32
-Last Stand is now +11/+11
-You may now trade Hero's Guards for 25 Arcanes (was previously Holy Guard, which no longer exists)
-It is now possible to get rainbow pally sprite from Incognito
-Fixed an issue where the Golgotha NPC attacks you in the final room of Haunted House, and you can't attack back
Bug Fixes
-Fixed a bug where sometimes the game screen would turn black
-Fixed a bug where in 32 bit color mode the game would crash occasionally
-Fixed a bug where when you joined the game you would see a black map for a brief period
-Fixed a bug where map switching would make it so you couldn't move for a brief period
-Fixed a bug where the game would occasionally crash while closing it
-Fixed a bug where the updater would crash if ran while the game was open |
